How to transcribe

Recording with Soniox is simple. You can get a live transcript, record in the background, or record offline and upload later.

Start a new transcription

1. Open the app and go to the Transcribe tab (mic).
2. (Optional) Tap settings Settings before recording to improve accuracy. See Improving accuracy for details.
3. Tap the large microphone button mic to start recording.
4. If online, watch the live transcription appear on your screen.

Save or discard your recording

When done, tap Stop. You can:

• mic Resume: continue recording from where you left off.
• delete Discard: delete the recording and its temporary transcript.
• check Save: save the recording. When saving:
  • Give it a name. The app will automatically suggest one based on the content.
  • The audio file is saved locally.
  • Soniox runs a high-quality refinement in the background. This is included in the initial recording cost.

Background & offline recording

You don’t need the app open or have internet connection to capture a conversation.

• Switch to another app or turn off the screen. Recording continues in the background.
• Record without internet. Upload and refine the audio when you’re back online.
